Okay a little background info for those of you that don't already know...hubby and I had not been on a vacation since basically our honeymoon. (which believe it or not will be coming up on 10 years next June!) Anyway we have had the occasional weekend trip to be in a wedding and I tagged along on one business trip to TN but that has been it) P had only been on one vacation to TN when she was a baby but none of us as a family had been on a real vacation together. So we have REALLY really been looking forward to this...plus I LOVE LOVE LOVE Disney so that in itself is fun to me!
Okay so I will start with Sunday (the day before we leave) ummm hello remnants of Hurricane Ike?? It was crazy windy here all day. We had limbs down but nothing too major except our mailbox got blown over but I was worried that it wouldn't stop and we wouldn't have electricity or that we would have to fly in something like that or a tree would fall on the house while we were gone or about a half dozen other things I could think of that "could" happen. Luckily though nothing did, the wind died off in early evening, we had electricity, I was packed and ready to go.
Beep! Beep! Beep! Time to get up nice and early. We had to be out the door and on our way at 6am! We had an uneventful trip to the airport. Got parked, checked our bags, ate some breakfast and waited for the plane.
This was P's first airplane ride. She did great. Actually she was really really good the whole trip which made the vacation even better!
So we landed hopped on Disney's Magical Express and away it took us to our resort. Our room wasn't ready yet so we walked around the resort checking out. We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. This is where we had our first little Disney magic. This year and I believe last year they are doing a promotion called Year of a Million Dreams and during this time random people at the parks, hotels, etc might grant you a price or just a little extra Pixie Dust! Anyway so we were walking across this bridge and a man riding a Segway (I totally want one of these!) was behind us and P made a comment about it and was talking to the man. We were all just kind of walking and talking about it then we go past this door and the Segway man stopped and asked P if he had seen Tinkerbell yet and we said no that we had just gotten there blah blah blah and he took out a Tinkerbell pin and gave it to P and told her it was from her. It was cute.
Oh also forgot about this too. When you check in be sure and ask if you can have a first time visitor button. It is free so why not! Also when we checked our bags since our room wasn't ready the people there gave her a huge strip of stickers and told her to come back anytime to get more!
Little side note about Pin Trading: If you don't know what it is it is kind of cool. At Disney they have these pins you can buy and you wear them on a lanyard and you can trade them with other people - guests, workers, whoever is wearing a lanyard or has pins. Anyway I knew about this so whenever I saw them at garage sales this summer I picked them. I didn't find very many but I think we had 4 and a lanyard. P ended up trading two of the four but said she liked the others. Anyway one day I was in the gift shop and I overheard one of the workers explaining pin trading to someone else and he said to just buy the cheapest pin which he said was $6.95 (I think) and then trade it for one you like. Good idea! I think a lot of the pins were 8.95 so you could save a couple of bucks! I know you think well, I probably won't trade any pins but really it is kind of cool. They have all sorts of pins and lanyards and it is fun to see the kids interact with the workers. All they have to do is say, "Can I see your pins please?" and then the kid can pick out which one of theirs they would like to have and gives them anyone of their own.
Okay okay ummmm back to day one....see I told you this would be long! Okay so our room is ready but our bags aren't here yet. Magical Express is nice since you don't have to mess with them but it can take 3 or so hours for them to get there. So we have a snack at the hotel. Now this was our first time using the dining plan and we found it a little confusing. It really isn't but the first time it is a little overwhelming. (especially at the hotel because there are so many choices) Anyway we were starving and decided to have some lunch since our dinner wasn't until late (I was afraid the plane might be late or something) Anyway so P had pasta and me and hubby had burgers but it also came with fries, drink and dessert. It was a lot of food which we soon found out that most meals were a LOT of food.
Anyway so we go ahead and head to the Magic Kingdom. We wanted P to see the castle first.
She was really excited. Now it was pretty warm the whole time we were there. I would say 90 maybe a little hotter around 3pm but the evenings were nice. Anyway so we get the Magic Kingdom now to be called MK (by me!) and we have some time to kill before our first dinner reservation so we hit some rides. I had no clue how the lines would be so I was thinking we would maybe hit two or three rides and then go eat. Well we totally lucked out and the crowds were GREAT! Most of the time the wait was no more than 10 minutes, lots of times we could just walk right on and a few times we had to wait for like 20-30 minutes. It was great!!! Especially since I had no clue how P would do in the lines as she normally has no patience for things like that. She did good though and normally started talking to the people in front or behind us! :)
So we rode a couple of rides and then off to dinner. First stop using our free Disney dining plan:
The Crystal Palace (which is a buffet featuring Pooh, Tigger, and friends)
It was nice. I liked it. Nothing fancy really. The food was fine. The rolls were really good! P got her first autographs which we had them sign a pillowcase so it was super cute! They did a parade for the kids around the restaurant. P was really excited to join right in until she got too far behind the kid in front of her and then felt lost and burst into tears where hubby had to go grab here. It was kind of sad and funny at the same time. Anyway so this was our next little pixie dust moment. Our waiter came over with a Tinkerbell pin (different from the other) and said Tink wanted her to have it since she got so sad during the parade. So that was nice :) As we were leaving there and finishing up the fireworks started. (oh and it was raining...not hard but enough to get the stroller wet) but that was the only time it rained all week! woohoo so much for the three ponchos I took just in case!
Okay so then I really can't remember. I guess we headed back to the room and went to bed because we were tired and had early reservations the next morning.
Okay well I guess that is enough for one post plus I am tired and am starting to forget stuff hahaa
Oh and about the fanny pack hahaa yes I wore one...yep me and my black fanny pack! I had planned on taking my Vera Bradley hipster and at the last moment I decided that if it rained a lot or there were a lot of water rides that my purse would stay soaked the whole time and my camera and phone and stuff might get messed up so I went out on a hunt for something else. Well that is all good and well but it was like two days before we left so I jokingly said I want a fanny pack. So we were in Walmart and I was looking around and they had no purses that I thought would work so we glanced at them. Most of them were pretty ummmm big but they had this one black one that looked just a tiny bit better than the others and it was only like $4.74 so in the cart it went. So there yeah I wore a fanny pack get over it! hahaa but really in all honesty it was perfect. I left anything we weren't going to use frequently in the stroller (stroller fan, sunscreen, autograph stuff, etc) and in my "pack" I had the essentials (phone, money, camera, ticket. It worked out great even if I looked like a dork!
