Wilton Cake Decorating Class - Course 1

So about a month ago my friend Sonia called me up and asked if I wanted to take a cake decorating class at Hobby Lobby. I said absolutely!!! I've always wanted to but never did so I was excited.

So we go the first day. It is in a little classroom in the back of Hobby Lobby. There are 9 of us taking the class and the room is pretty small but that is okay. There is a mom and her two high school/college age daughters, a mom and daughter team and the daughter is getting married next year and wants to make her own cake, another set of two friends and then me and my friend Sonia.

So we go the first day and the instructor basically just tells us what we will be doing and what to bring to the next class. So the next class we come with our two layer cakes and a big tub of icing and some tools. She teaches us to make roses. Well, she shows us...some of us get it and others of us...ummm don't hahaa I being the one that gets the idea but can't make it look pretty!

So that leads to class 3...we bring in a double layered iced cake and we made this:

Obviously it would have looked better if we would have colored our icing but since it was just practice we all had lovely boring white roses!

Anyway on the last class we learned to make clowns. I had iced my cake and decorated with yellow icing and then she had us make red, white and blue clowns. Stuff like that bugs me hahaa

Anyway it was a lot of fun...so much fun that we signed up to take the next course!

I don't even want to know how much I've spent on this class. I mean the class itself was only $17.50 but then you had to buy the course kit, a few extra tips, and bags and stuff. Then I had to get a carrier for my cake and then I ended up getting a carrier for all my cake stuff hahaa not to mention how much we've spent on making double batches of buttercream icing. Oh well we are learning some neat stuff and most of the stuff is reusable so its all good :)

Anyone reading this ever take the class before?

I have never taken a class, but would LOVE to someday. Just can't find the time. Maybe I'll just hire you to do the next birthday for me!! :)

I think you would really like it! We are having a lot of fun but since our class is on the large side we do feel a bit rushed. Most of it is pretty simple but it is nice having someone show you the first time :)
